At MorphIUs, we believe that laser tattoo removal should be a process of empowerment — not trauma.  But sadly, not every client comes to us at the start of their journey. Some arrive after painful experiences elsewhere, seeking answers, support, and healing.

This is one of those stories.

The Client’s Experience: Blistering, Burns, and No Results

Our client came to MorphIUs with a partially faded tattoo on her lower leg. She had undergone five sessions at another clinic — the last one more than five years ago. Unfortunately, those treatments left her with more than just ink residue.

She showed us photos from her previous sessions.

  • One image displayed significant blistering — a red flag that the laser energy was too aggressive or poorly matched to her skin type.

  • Another revealed third-degree burns, indicative of excessive thermal injury and poor technique.

Instead of gentle fading, she was left with scar tissue and damaged skin — the kind that can make further ink removal nearly impossible.

Why Did This Happen?

Tattoo removal is not a one-size-fits-all process. Your skin type, tattoo depth, ink colour, and previous treatments all affect how the laser interacts with the tissue. When settings aren’t precisely adjusted or when care isn’t taken to monitor the skin’s response, damage can occur.

Burns and scarring are not normal outcomes of tattoo removal.
They are signs of poorly delivered care.

What We Found at Consult

During her Morphogenesis consultation at MorphIUs, Bruce assessed the area and warned that the scarring from her previous treatments could reflect and scatter the laser light. This light diffraction prevents energy from penetrating into the ink pigment effectively — making further standard tattoo removal futile.

Rather than perform this protocol to no effect, we took a different path.

Our Plan: Healing First, Then Clearance

We recommended a high-power fractionated laser approach — not seeking to remove the ink, but to first restore the skin. Here’s why:

  • Fractionated lasers deliver microscopic columns of light that break up scar tissue and stimulate healthy new skin.

  • Each column of micro-injury also targets residual ink particles — allowing for simultaneous rejuvenation and pigment clearance.

  • This technique minimises damage while maximising both results and recovery.

It’s a dual-purpose method: repair and release.
