Laser Skin Aesthetics

Both treatments cause controlled damage to the skin, stimulating the body’s natural healing response, which leads to collagen production and skin regeneration. 

Ablative lasers are more aggressive and work by removing the outer layer of the skin (epidermis) and heating the underlying dermal layers.  A single treatment can produce dramatic results, but longer recovery time is needed, approximately 2 weeks at home and up to 6 weeks for redness to subside.  This treatment will not be suitable for all skin types and there is significant risk of side effects. 

Non-ablative lasers deliver laser energy in a fractionated manner, meaning it is divided into thousands of microscopic treatment zones that penetrate the skin in columns, leaving the surrounding tissue intact.  Downtime is minimal, redness generally lasts 2-5 days, there is lower risk of side affects and treatment is suitable for a broader range of skin types and colours.  Dramatic results are achieved through multiple treatments.

We will do a full exploration of your skin colour, type and condition and explore your unique circumstances in your initial consult, and explain the risk of side effects specific to you.  We will not proceed with treatment while you are on light sensitising medication, if you have dermatitis or another skin disorder, have visible skin trauma (lesions, sores or open wounds), are undergoing HRT, are pregnant or breastfeeding, at risk of epilepsy or seizures, or have a high risk of keloid or hypertrophic scarring.

Non-ablative fractional lasers are generally safe for most skin types, including light to medium skin tones. However, darker skin contains higher levels of melanin, the pigment responsible for the skin’s colour. Melanin absorbs light energy, including laser energy.  When the laser energy is absorbed by the melanin in dark skin, there is a higher chance of causing post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Hyperpigmentation refers to darkening of the skin in response to injury or inflammation. It can manifest as dark spots or patches on the treated area and may persist for an extended period.  Your initial (complimentary) consult includes careful screening and assessment of all risk factors.

Our fractional laser treatments primarily address skin texture, tone, and fine lines, and dermal fillers target dynamic wrinkles and volume loss.  Many of our younger clients have found that can cease using injectables as their facial features fill out again naturally in response to enhanced collagen production. Depending on your age, using fillers in conjunction with non-ablative laser can enhance the overall results, as each treatment targets different aspects of facial aging.  The combination can lead to a more refreshed, youthful, and natural-looking appearance.

Clients typically experience sensations that are often described as tolerable and manageable. The exact sensation will vary based on the laser settings used and individual pain tolerance.  The procedure is often described as intense, due to the smacking sound and feel of the laser makes as it impacts the skin.  Sensations vary from warm and tingling, to prickling and uncomfortable.  We recommend and sell a topical numbing cream which is applied prior to treatment to minimise discomfort.  Actual treatment time is approximately 30 minutes, and consists of three passes at different settings, with intensity increasing each pass.  Clients almost always say the discomfort is worth the results and willingly return for subsequent treatments. 

Before your treatment session we ask that you avoid photosensitizing medications for 1 month, avoid fake tanning products, refrain from adding tattoos or permanent makeup, avoid plucking or waxing for 4 weeks prior, and avoid intentional sun exposure 4-6 weeks prior.  We will discuss preparation with you at your initial (complimentary) consult and provide written preparation instructions when you book your treatment.

After treatment you will experience temporary redness, mild swelling, and a sensation similar to sunburn.  These effects begin subsiding within a few hours and continue to improve for up to a week.  Those that are healthy and active tend to heal more quickly.  Often, by the next day, the skin has returned to normal colour, there may still be some minor redness, micro scabbing or dark spots where pigment has been treated.  Sometimes the treatment stimulates a detox response, as toxins come to the surface.  Many clients report that recover time gets quicker and quicker with each subsequent treatment.

The initial 7 days post treatment are recommended to be free from ‘make-up’, with only natural aftercare products and gentle cleansing.  MorphIUs believe in using natural / plant based products wherever possible and we recommend organic high grade Aloe Vera gel followed by application of our unique MorphIUs Luminescence Elixir which contains Bakuchiol, Olive Squalane, Jojoba, plus Sandalwood Essential Oil.  This combination nourishes your skin and provides all the ingredients to support your skins’ optimal healing and restructuring.

Non-ablative fractional laser skin rejuvenation results in much less ‘social downtime’ compared to other methods of laser rejuvenation. Most people are able to return to work same day or next day but it is best to allow for some social downtime after the treatment.  Redness in appearance can take up to 3 days to fully subside.  If you have had pigmentation spot treatment, these can take 7-10 days to completely subside. 

A week after treatment, your skin will have healed and generally be feeling soft, supple and smooth.  Many clients love the feel of their skin as much as the improvements to their appearance.  Within 2 weeks of treatment you will notice a luminosity, a healthy, radiant glow.  At this point clients often receive comments on how healthy they look.  The results of collagen stimulation are usually visible between 3-6 weeks after treatment, resulting in a gentle filling out of the facial structure.  Results continue to improve with time, and repeat treatments which optimise your results.  Usually the first treatment is focused on resurfacing and detoxification of the skin, subsequent treatments focus more on tightening and lifting, while continuing to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.

Sun spots are a form of pigmentation, which is usually superficial, effecting only the top layer of the dermis.  A single targeted treatment will cause the spots to turn dark and crusty, then gradually fall away within 5-10 days revealing fresh new skin beneath.  Sun spots are caused by sun exposure, so shielding your face from harsh sunlight will limit recurrence.  There are other forms of pigmentation that penetrate deeper into the dermis, like melasma.  These pigments will require subsequent treatments to remove. 

The number of treatments required depends on various factors such as the specific skin concern being addressed and the individual’s skin condition. Generally, a series of 3 to 6 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart is recommended for optimal results.  When you attend your initial (complimentary) consult, a treatment plan will be prepared specific to your unique circumstances.

While non-ablative fractional laser treatments can provide long-lasting results, the natural aging process and external factors such as ongoing sun exposure can impact the longevity of the outcomes. Maintenance treatments every 6 months are recommended to sustain the desired results.

A fractionated laser skin rejuvenation treatment starts at $660 for your full face.  Adding neck and decolletage will cost extra.  Removal of pigmentation will be added to your first treatment.
